Bringing the Living Room Walls to Life

Another Stephen Saint Onge Collaboration from the Archives

Sometimes when working with designers, wall color is background. In this particular makeover, it is more like the backbone of the transformation.

This is a great example of how to inject a new color into your living room walls, and let that drive a cost effective redecorating project.

Living Room Walls

Not quite working…

Before

This is an example of an outdated “fad” color…from like 12 years ago. It’s interesting how many fad colors are all the rage, and then do not hold up to the test of time. Most trends go in cycles, but no one wants to live with one until it comes back around in time.

Especially when it is so easy to make a dramatic change with paint.

Always test a color in the room before committing.

The color that Stephen chose to build this transformation around was Benjamin Moore 1644 Blue Dusk. We used Natura zero voc paint for the project, because it has great coverage on major color changes like this, and because it is low odor and dries fast. All good qualities in a time sensitive makeover, much like weekend projects in our own homes.

Blue is a tricky color because it can feel cold and distant. Not the case here.

The Big Reveal

More like it…

After we painted the living room walls, Stephen executed his craft in the space. I ended up pretty blown away with how he pulled so many tones together to play off the blue wall color.

It is hard to appreciate in pictures, but this color is very light sensitive. It takes on different moods in different kinds of light – as in artificial light versus natural light.

Definitely something I learned alot about from Stephen on this project, and a good point for consideration in any wall color selection process.
